CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS FOR INVERTED PROFILE THERMOPLASTIC TRAFFIC STRIPES (CLASS B AUDIBLE)

When called for in the plans or special provisions for a project, Class B Audible Inverted Profile Traffic Stripe shall be installed and shall conform to all provisions specified for Class A Inverted Profile Traffic Stripe and the following special provisions:

A base line of hot thermoplastic shall be laid by an oil jacketed screed die or shoe so as to form a continuous base line stripe that is 4 inches wide and .110 inches thick above the surface of the pavement. A movable door or gate located to the rear of the shoe shall raise and lower at timed intervals so as to produce a varied bump within the original base line stripe. This raised bump shall be approximately 3" long at the base, .50 inches in height above the pavement surface and shall be laid inn one continuous operation and be cast from the same reservoir of heated thermoplastic. The 7 inch diameter line profiling wheel shall be configured in a manner that allows it to serially press corrugations into the base line stripe, yet be timed in such a way as to omit or skip over the area of stripe that the audible bump is located.
